I love Buck Rogers. I was very lucky to have his ship land in my studio for a while. I worked on this painting on and off for a year. It was a painting that I didn't want to finish too quickly. It was a painting journey I thoroughly enjoyed with all its textures and surfaces from shiny, to metal, to wood, and plastic.

I can't even begin to scratch the surface of the information and history available to Buck Rogers fans, but I will give a short tidbit of information.

Buck Rogers was created by Philip Francis Nowlan. Buck Rogers first appeared as Anthony Rogers in the short story "Armegeddon-2419 A.D.". It was published in the August 1928 issue of Amazing Stories, as seen above.

John Flint Dille, president of National Newspaper Service Syndicate, read this story and asked Nolan if he would like to do a science fiction comic strip based on the stories concept.

Richard Calkins was commissioned to illustrate the strip which debuted as “Buck Rogers in the 25^th Century” on January 7^th, 1929.

On November 7^th, 1932 a radio broadcast show began.

In 1939 Universal Pictures produced a 12 part serial film.

Buck Rogers made his television debut April 15^th, 1950 on ABC. In 1979 NBC revived the television series.

It’s popularity grew as did products surrounding Buck Rogers. These are known to be some of the first licensing deals surrounding

a modern character.
